Is your home filled with furniture that embodies clean lines and made from glass, stainless steel, or wood? While modern-style furniture is still hugely in fashion, interior decorating trends are tending towards a softer, cosier feel in the home. So how can you create this without having to buy a whole new set of furniture?

While glass, stainless steel, and wood are the most popular materials in interior decorating right now, using them incorrectly means that you can end up with a harsher, colder feel than you meant to. However, it is easier, and cheaper than you think to soften the lines. The easiest and most cost effective way that you can do that is simply by adding texture.

Add Texture to your Furniture
Adding cushions, floor rugs, or throw rugs is an easy way of doing this. Ensure that you use different fabrics in order to achieve different textures. Some examples are silk, linen, cotton, leather, suede, microfibre, fake fur, and satin. If you wish to use different textures, make sure that the colours are coordinating. For different colours, ensure that the texture is the same. This will help to keep the feel of the room together.

Use Patterns to Soften Furniture
Patterns are also coming back into fashion but you need to be careful how you use these. Due to their “busy-ness”, it is best to use patterns in smaller amounts. One great way to use patterns is in wallpaper — with some popular patterns including those inspired by nature, retro prints, and abstract prints. Printed fabrics are another great way of bringing patterns into the home. Just ensure that you are not placing two “busy” patterns together, as they will overwhelm each other.

Colour and its Role
Colour on the walls is another great way of softening the feel of a room. While neutral colours and black and white are very popular, warmer colours are making their way through. These include burnt oranges, reds, purples, and browns. Pink tones, and all shades of blues and greens also work fantastically in most homes.

Cortidea is a Danish owned interior textile and décor shop, situated in the small and cosy commercial centre “Centro Idea” on the Mijas road. It was founded in 1995 and its owner, Henrik Stæhr Jørgensen, has a solid background with more than 25 years in the business.
The shop has one of the most beautiful collections of hand-picked fabrics for curtains, upholstery and home furnishings from leading European Manufacturers SATI, Alhambra, Pagunette of Scandinavia, Camengo, Casamance, ADO, Wind and Sumiko Honda to name just a few. Henrik tells us that the Designers Guild has recently joined their collection.
A recent addition is the sale of top quality custom crafted interior wood blinds supplied by Shaftesburys, guaranteed to add warmth and beauty to any room.

The supply of wall to wall carpets or any size of rugs from the Danish manufacturer EGE Carpets, is also proving very popular.
